Once the Carnival season is over, most Mardi Gras Krewes have their themes already chosen for the next parade year. I begin meeting with the
art directors and krewe captains to start the process all over again. A working rough concept called a "thumbnail sketch" is first
submitted for approval. Then the black and white inked drawings are created before the final color washes are added to the sketch.
Almost all sketches are hand drawn and designed in profile because the design will be duplicated on both sides of the float.
